The Black In Fashion Council Celebrated 10 Seasons of Its Discovery Showroom With a Dinner Party
There are few better starts to Black History Month—and New York Fashion Week, of course—than the Black in Fashion Council's dinner. Co-hosts Sandrine Charles and Lindsay Peoples bring together many of fashion's brightest Black tastemakers, creators, and visionaries to welcome a busy NYFW.
True to its mission to promote inclusivity in the fashion industry, the Council hosts a Discovery Showroom each fashion week season in which emerging Black and African diaspora designers can showcase their collections. Its current fall 2025 presentation—featuring labels like Fumi The Label, Muehleder, and Nia Thomas—is the Council’s 10th showroom. Such an occasion meant that fashion folk, already eager to mix and mingle, had even more reason to celebrate.
“This feels like the BET Awards” was a common sentiment throughout the evening's festivities. On the 16th floor of the buzzy WSA building in Manhattan's Financial District, a host of stylists, models, creatives, and industry innovators—from Chanel Iman and Jordyn Woods to Ari Lennox, Julez Smith and Hannah Bronfman Fallis—gathered dressed to the nines in head to toe black ensembles. The dress code? All Black cocktail. Cocktails started at 7 PM, where custom drinks by Hennessy (the Henny-rita was a major hit), along with a collection of wines and spirit-free options, were sipped before the space transitioned into dinner service once the clock struck 8 PM.
Designers Rachel Scott, Edvin Thompson, Anifa Mvuemba, and Sergio Hudson made their way to their tables for delectable starters. A mixed green salad and French onion soup came before a serving of cacio e pepe gnocchi, then a branzino and french fries entree. Before dessert could be set out, however, DJ A-List got the party started with a mix of hip-hop and R&B bangers. Within a few minutes, the entire crowd made their way onto the center of the space to dance the night away. A fitting celebration for Black excellence indeed!
