Daisy Edgar-Jones is known for her super-feminine yet diaphanously effortless aesthetic when it comes to both fashion and beauty. Celebrity makeup artist Nikki Wolff is leaning into it—pulling from the romanticism of Normal People and Cat on a Hot Tin Roof to create Edgar-Jones’s current beauty look, which she’s calling “soft focus tonal beauty.”
“It’s radiant, sculpted, and effortlessly flattering with a touch of timeless elegance,” Wolff, who has worked with Sabrina Carpenter and Demi Moore, tells Vogue. Wolff has a clockable aesthetic that she plays out with her clients: sensual touches with shape and color, pristine skin, feathery brows, and heartbreaker lips.
To achieve the look, Wolff used the same contour shade on Edgar-Jones’s eyes, cheeks, and lips. “Applying contour this way lays the foundation for a monochromatic look,” she explains. “When you layer products on top, this universal shading helps ground the entire look, making it feel cohesive and harmonious.” Next came a cream blush—and placement is key for this part. She applied blush to the apples of the cheeks and blended it slightly lower into the hollows. “Since this mimics a natural flush, it creates a youthful, fresh effect,” Wolff says. It’s reminiscent of last year’s boyfriend blush trend.
The eyes were kept very natural—with just a hint of contour and a few individual lashes, and she defined her full pout with a soft brown lip liner and a balmy nude lipstick.
Wolff’s top tip? Blend, blend, blend—until you’re as soft focused as a sepia-toned Polaroid from summers gone by. “I love working in light layers to gradually build depth, creating a seamless, skinlike finish,” she says. It’s also important to mix your textures by combining cream and powder products, which in turn adds natural depth while also helping the makeup last longer.
“What I love most about a look like this is how soft and flattering it is,” says Wolff. “My favorite approach is to create looks where you can’t quite tell what has been used or where—leaving the impression that it’s simply the person’s natural beauty. I feel this look embodies that perfectly.”
As the spring 2025 runways reflect a return to whimsical silhouettes and romantic tulles and chiffons, what we’re putting on our faces follows suit: Expect soft-focus beauty bases to continue long into 2025.
